New Condos Downtown San Diego - Cedar Gateway

Cedar Gateway is one of the newest projects to be constructed in Downtown San Diego.  This project is located at 1620 6th Avenue at Cedar.  Currently St. Cecilia Chapel is located on the site.  The building was originally built in 1928 and was a wonderful addition to the Cortez HIll area.  The Bradley-Woolman Funeral Home was originally located to the south of the Chapel.  The Chapel was an addition to the funeral home and was designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style.  It is a simple building with a Mission tile gable roof and a small, original flat roofed wing.  Although the building has been neglected and subjected to graffiti, you can still see the original stained glass windows and the beautiful architecture.  The building has an historical designation, so any development has to be very careful to incorporate the original beauty of the chapel.

In order to maximize the use of this site and keep the original beauty of the chapel, a low income housing project is planned for the site.  CCDC has been working with the developer to plan and construct 65 affordable rental units.  What makes this project a little different from other "affordable housing" projects is that 23 of these units will be "supportive housing for those with special needs".  The special needs are considered to be for those with mental issues.

As you can imagine there has been two sides to this story.  To those who champion low income housing and helping those with special needs, this project is a great opportunity.  To those who purchased condos in the area, this project brings a bit of concern regarding housing those less fortunate with mental issues.  There is right on both sides of this argument, and one can only hope an agreement can be reached whereby all parties join together for a successful project.

I have read some who slam those with concerns, but that is a very one sided view.  There are two sides to the story and all parties can work together to make sure this is a successful project.  Success in this project will show others how to integrate multi-housing usages in the inner core of cities.

Be sure the carpet is completely dry before vacuuming or even walking on the carpet if possible. To keep dust particles down, vacuum the carpet often and change the vacuum cleaner bag often as well. Dust can settle in the bag and release particles into the air as you are vacuuming - defeating the whole purpose of cleaning your carpet!

My associate is working on this project and is the hands-on individual in developing this property. I know he understand the nervousness and concerns of the neighborhood and is working to ensure that these fears wont come to fruition.
