Downtown San Diego Condos: Fireplaces Galore

One of the things many condo buyers, including Downtown San Diego condo buyers want in their unit is a fireplace.  What do you do if you don't have a fireplac in the unit?  I started a search to see what is out there in the way of portable fireplaces.

Who would have ever thought or even knew how many different types of fireplaces exist. These fireplaces are new and energy efficient. They use ethanol as fuel, which I find very interesting. The Zeta fireplace is actually an award winner at the 2009 Australian International Design Awards in Sydney, Australia. Designed by John Dimooulos, the EcoSmart Zeta fireplace is named because of its elliptical shape and reminds one of its Greek design origins.  It is hard to picture a fireplace made of timber, leather and stainless steel.  This is a perfect fireplace for a condo dweller because it is portable and sits on a brushed stainless steel swivel base.

For those who want to green their life, this is the perfect choice, using denatured ethanol which is an environmentally friendly and renewable biofuel.

The Fire & Ice coffee table is another really interesting design marvel. Imagine sitting on your couch, reaching for your drink off your coffee table, and roasting your marshmallows at the same time. One end of this coffee table is a recess for the flue less EcoSmart Burner while the other end of the table is a normal coffee table. You can move the sliding platform to cover the burner and the fire is automatically turned off. This is a two-for-one use. In the summer you can have a regular coffee table and in the winter, a fireplace. I guess you would have to remember not to put your feet up on the table, especially if you have the fire on and you pick the wrong end.

The Fire & Ice is also green and uses denatured ethanol, an environmentally-friendly renewable energy. This table is really for a location where you don’t have to worry about children, pets or an alcohol imbibing friends. You would have to be careful with this table, but if you are careful, I think this is a really cutting edge decorating item.

One of the main things to check before you go buy one of these neat fireplaces is to check with your homeowner association.  I don't know if they have rules for or against portable fireplaces.  Downtown San Diego condo associations have rules for the oddest things, so  better to check first.

Wait until you see my next post with the “Q” fireplace. Those of you who are familiar with Star Trek will know who “Q” was and this fireplace is as unique as was Star Trek’s “Q”.
