Downtown San Diego Condos: Horton Plaza and The U.S. Grant Hotel

Years ago Horton Plaza was a dumping ground for the homeless.  I remember when I first came to San Diego for college (many years ago) from Los Angeles.  I did not have a car and my mother did not drive at the time.  I was so homesick that my poor mother would ride the Greyhound bus from Downtown Los Angeles twice a week to see me.  Only those of you who have ever been homesick will understand this.  The rest of you will just think I am nuts.

Looking back, I realize that my mother was a young 40 years old and very attractive.  She would meet me at Horton Plaza and no matter when I met her, some strange man was always trying to talk to her.  I didn't realize the bars, tatoo parlours, and porn movie theaters brought out that sort of people.

I found this picture of Horton Plaza and the shot across to the U.S. Grant.  It reminded me of those days many years ago.  Now Horton Plaza looks so nice.  The surrounding area of Horton Plaza is a world away from the Pussycat Theater.  In addition, everything looks better at night when lit up with nice colors.
