As our friends and clients, Denis and Annette Poole have an unique view of San Diego. Purchasing a second home condo in downtown San Diego, Denis and Annette visit their adopted city several times a year. Denis is a smooth jazz aficianado and an expert.We appreciate his contributions to our San Diego lifestyle pages.
There can be no more atmospheric open air venue for smooth jazz than the Thornton Winery in Temecula CA. Deep in the California wine country, forty miles north east of San Diego on I-15, this working winery combines the production of fine wines with a high quality restaurant and a large open space that, when the crème de la crème of contemporary jazz artists come to town, converts perfectly to a concert venue.
For many years the Thornton Winery has staged its Champagne Jazz Series where music lovers from miles around sit in the warm evening sunshine, drink champagne by the bottle and chill out to some of the highest quality jazz on offer anywhere. The 2009 schedule, which will be released shortly, is likely to include events on most weekends from late April right through to early October and if you want to luxuriate in the blistering heat of a Californian Sunday afternoon as it softens into the twilight of evening then this is the place to be.
